Independent Party Members

1.    Confirm with the Secretary of State that the Independent Party has a ballot line for your district.

2.    Fill out the Candidate Questionnaire and email to info@ctindependents.org where it will be reviewed by our State Central Committee (SCC).

3.    Sign the Pledge Statements and email to  info@ctindependents.org.

4.    Please advise the State Central Committee of your intentions to run by July 15, 2024. The SCC will review and endorse candidates on a rolling basis in Late July through August.  Endorsements need to be made to the Secretary of State’s office by September 4, 2024.

Petitioning Candidates 

  1. Download the Application For A Nominating Petition (602B form) on our Petitioning Page. Read the instructions for filling out the application and for the  Secretary of State’s Petitioning Process.  Verify your eligibility to run for office by filling out the application form and submitting it to the Town Clerk of your district.  The application form must then be submitted to the  Secretary of State’s Office, who will prepare your petition and advise you on the number of signatures that constitute 1% of the voters from the previous election. 
  2. Fill out the Independent Party’s Candidate Questionnaire and email to info@ctindependents.org where it will be reviewed by our State Central Committee (SCC). 
  3. Sign the Pledge Statements and email to info@ctindependents.org .
  4. Nominating Petitions must be filed with the Secretary of State by August 7, 2024. 
  5. Send confirmation of filing to the Independent Party after completing the Secretary of State process.
  6. The SCC will decide  candidate endorsements thereafter, prior to the required filing date of September 4, 2024.

Major Party Candidates Seeking Cross Endorsement

  1. Confirm with the Secretary of State that your district has an Independent Party line.
  2. Fill out the Candidate Questionnaire and submit the request for endorsement to the State Central Committee. This can be done as soon as you are prepared to proceed with the endorsement process. Email to: info@ctindependents.org. 
  3. Sign the Pledge Statements and email to info@ctindependents.org.
  4. The State Central Committee will review all applications for endorsement and decide on who best fits with our philosophy and goals.
  5. Surveys and pledge statements are due by August 8, 2024.
  6. Any candidate running in their own party’s primary, requesting and Independent cross endorsement,  must sign an additional statement that they will run in the election regardless of the primary outcome as the representative of the Independent Party.
  7. The SCC will decide endorsements prior to the required filing date of September 4, 2024.
